What is In Transit?

In transit refers to the movement or transporting of goods from one place to another. In e-commerce, it indicates that the parcel is on its way to the final destination. This package movement can be from the warehouse distribution centre to the customer’s home address.

Significance of In Transit in E-commerce

To make order fulfillment more transparent, companies provide ‘in transit’ status updates. The importance of the in transit status is as follows:

  • Providing ‘in transit’ status keeps customers updated about their products and increases customer satisfaction.
  • The shipping and delivery experience is related to the brand itself. Providing real-time updates such as ‘in transit’ status allows companies to offer the best shopping experience. This builds a loyal customer base.

How Does In Transit Work?

In transit is one of the stages in order delivery and fulfillment. Before delivering the product to the customer, they get a notification that states ‘in transit’. It means that the order/product has reached the nearest local distribution center for the last verification and is on its last mile delivery stage.

Use Case With In transit

For a better understanding, let us consider an example. Suppose you have purchased a product from an e-commerce platform. After you have ordered it, you will be able to track the product in the order status. Once you get a notification that the product has reached the in-transit stage, you can expect its delivery within the next two or three days.
