Dimensional Weight Calculator Questions

Dimensional weight, or DIM weight, is a pricing weight based on parcel volume. Carriers use it to charge bulky lightweight cartons fairly because those parcels occupy more network space than their actual weight suggests.

Multiply length × width × height, then divide by the carrier divisor. For inches, many express and parcel models use 139 or 166. For centimeters, many APAC air-parcel models use 5,000 or 6,000.

Billable weight is the higher of actual weight and dimensional weight. If a carton weighs 2 kg but has a DIM weight of 4 kg, the carrier will typically rate it as 4 kg.

Use the divisor from your carrier rate card or marketplace logistics program. If you are estimating before a quote, 5,000 for centimeters or 139 for inches is a practical conservative starting point for air and express shipping.

Right-size cartons, reduce void fill, split very bulky bundles where sensible, and store fast-moving SKUs closer to customers so you can choose more economical delivery services.
