What is Dispatch?

Dispatch is a phase in e-commerce logistics wherein companies prepare orders so they can ship them for subsequent order fulfillment. Picking, packing, verification, and labeling are all part of the dispatch process.

Significance of Dispatch in E-commerce Logistics

Companies can expect business growth and satisfied customers with proper dispatch management procedures. Here are some benefits of dispatch management that make it a vital step in e-commerce logistics:

  • Improves company operations: Good dispatch management enhances the operational value of a company by organizing, fulfilling, assigning, and keeping the records of all the tasks by automated software.
  • Reduces delivery time: With optimized delivery routes, companies can reduce delivery time and lower operating costs.
  • Positive consumer experience: Dispatch management allows rapid last-mile delivery of merchandise through route optimization, advanced analytics, delivery window update to customers, and so on. All these factors result in a positive customer experience.

Prerequisites for Dispatch and How It Works

Companies must stick to the following requirements to get good dispatch management:

  • Efficient AI dispatch management software
  • Multi-driver route optimization
  • Well-known shipping partners
  • Efficient drivers and tracking system

Dispatch includes several steps, like:

  1. Capturing and allocating an order in which the received orders are allocated to the concerned units of the team.
  1. Then, the orders are consolidated, picked, and packed by the warehouse workers.
  1. The packed goods are verified one last time using associated documents. Furthermore, each product is labeled after carefully measuring its dimensions.
  1. Subsequently, the sorted goods are loaded onto the appropriate mode of transport for dispatch. The carrier signs a document indicating they have received the shipment for transporting.

Use Case with Dispatch

Consider a company that has to fulfill ten orders in the same country, the Philippines. To do so, the company assigns warehouse workers to pick and pack the orders. Once that is done, all the orders are cross-verified and labeled. They are loaded onto the same delivery truck to optimize delivery routes, as they will be delivered to the same area. In this way, the company dispatches its goods for successful order fulfillment.
